The Hilandar Charter from 1198/1199 is the oldest Serbian charter, with which Stefan Nemanja founded and donated the Hilandar Monastery, which would become the largest and most important Serbian monastery and spiritual center.
Since the original of the charter is unfortunately not available to the public, the publisher and editor managed to reconstruct the entire appearance of the charter, text, seal and signature, based on a low-visibility black-and-white photo of the charter owned by SANA and the description and draft of the charter drawn up by Dimirija Avakimović from 1848.
Along with the replica of Stefan Nemanja’s Charter, a translation of the charter into modern Serbian and English was also made.
