Aleksandrida

Serbian Alexandrida is a medieval novel about Alexander the Great and his conquest of the world. Written in Glagolitic script, this richly illustrated novel was first mentioned in Zadar in 1389. In the Middle Ages, books were copied, so this copy of Alexandrida was created as a Russian copy of Serbian Alexandrida.

Alexandrida is basically a proto-literary novel, and since it is a whole writing richly illustrated, it could be said that medieval Serbian Alexandrida i “proto comic”. The rich illuminations of almost every page make Serbian Alexandrida, above all, a great work of art and as such belongs to the ranks of one of the most beautiful books in the world.
